What data does Ablestar WooCommerce Importer transfer to Shopify?

While WooCommerce and Shopify are both eCommerce platforms, they have some differences in how they store data. Additionally, other WordPress plugins can further extend WooCommerce's capabilities, and that data can be stored however the developer decides.

In this document, we'll cover which information is migrated from WooCommerce to Shopify with the Ablestar WooCommerce Importer app.

Overview

The Ablestar WooCommerce Importer app connects to the WooCommerce API on your WordPress sites and transfers the data to Shopify, adjusting the data as necessary. This means that all products, variants, images, and orders can be transferred.

However, if you have features on your store (either WooCommerce or Shopify) that require other plugins or apps, we cannot automatically transfer that data. If this is the case, you can check out the Importing Other Data section below.

Product Data

The app will migrate the following fields from WooCommerce to Shopify:

  • Product Title
  • Short Description
  • Long Description
  • Categories
  • Tags
  • Published State
  • Brand
  • Product Images
  • Product Images Alt Text
  • All product variants (see below)

For each variant of a product, the app will import the following:

  • SKU
  • Weight
  • Variant Options (size, color, etc..)
  • Price
  • Regular Price
  • Inventory Quantity
  • Inventory Management
  • Variant Image
  • Variant Image Alt Text
  • Variant Position

Order Data

The following data is imported for each order:

  • Order ID
  • Date Created
  • Subtotal Price
  • Total Price
  • Total Tax
  • Total Discounts
  • Email Address
  • Customer First and Last Name
  • Customer Note
  • Shipping Address
  • Shipping Method
  • Billing Address
  • Order Status
  • Coupons Used
  • Tax Rate
  • Product Attributes (may need to be imported separately)

Each order has one or more line items which include the following:

  • Quantity
  • Price
  • SKU
  • Name of Product Variant
  • Link to Product (only if products are also imported with the Ablestar WooCommerce Importer)

Customer Data

If you just import customers, the following fields will be migrated:

  • First and Last Name
  • Email Address
  • Company
  • Shipping Address
  • Billing Address

Importing Other Data

You might have additional information that you would like to migrate that isn't available through the WooCommerce API. These might include:

  • WordPress user accounts
  • Barcode data stored with a separate plugin
  • Multi-level categories

A custom import might be required to import this data. In most cases, we should be able to import it provided that you export the necessary data in a CSV file for us. If you're in this situation, please reach out to us at support@ablestar.co, and we'll figure out what we can do.

Digital Downloads

The base Shopify program can not handle digital downloads without the use of another app. If the WooCommerce products you are importing have digital downloads attached, the Ablestar WooCommerce Importer app will not be able to migrate the digital files directly. In cases like this, we recommend the following steps to ensure the downloads are linked to the orders:

  1. Use the Ablestar WooCommerce Importer app to import the products.
  2. Install a Digital Downloads app and attach the digital files to your products. (Shopify's Digital Downloads app is free.)
  3. Use the Ablestar WooCommerce Importer app to import the orders.

If you don't see the files linked to your orders, please contact us at support@ablestar.co for more details.
