Scanning your Shopify store for broken links

As your site changes and pages are removed, it's possible that you'll have broken links somewhere on your Shopify store. The Link Manager's Site Scan tool will search through the pages on your store to help you identify any broken links.

Prerequisites

In order to follow along you should have:

How it works

When we scan your store for broken links, the Site Scanner first goes to the homepage of your site. On that page, it looks for all links to other pages on your site and goes to those pages. If any of the pages returns a '404 Page Not Found' error, it keeps a record of that and displays it in the Link Manager.

The Site Scanner will repeat this process for each page on your site that it discovers until it's checked all the pages on your site or hit a 10,000 page limit.

Scanning for Broken Links

To get started, open up the Link Manager app and click on the Site Scan link in the menu on the left. This will take you to the Site Scan section where you can see previous scans that you've run:

To start a new scan, click on the Run Scan button in the top right of the page. Once you click this you'll see a page will the status of the current scan:

If the scan detects any broken links, you'll see them in the table at the bottom of the page. As the scan progresses you can hit the refresh icon to load any new broken links.

Depending on the number of pages on your site, it may take several minutes for the scan to complete.

Exporting your broken links to CSV

Once the scan is complete you can click on the CSV Export button to download a CSV file of your broken links:

The first column of the CSV shows the page that contains the broken link and the second column shows the URL of the broken link.
